Bill Fisher’s history with Guide Book Publishing is as deep as the company’s own roots. Joining the team in 1992, Bill served in nearly every facet of the organization—from the front lines of production to management—before becoming a partner in 2004. This “ground-up” perspective gave him an intimate understanding of the “win-win” nature of GBP: a service that provides churches with professional directories at no cost while offering local businesses a premier, hyper-local advertising platform.
During his decades as General Manager, Bill established a culture of radical accountability. He believed that being the personal “voice of the company” to resolve serious issues was essential to GBP’s credibility. Bill was also a driving force behind the company’s technical evolution, overseeing the profound transition from two-color covers to high-end digital color printing. “Keeping up with professional artwork standards was essential to keeping GBP at the forefront of the media,” Bill notes.
Now serving as a consultant, Bill shares over 30 years of operational wisdom with the next generation of leadership: “Never delegate an unpleasant responsibility that you should handle personally.” As he and his wife, Peggy, enjoy more time traveling and relaxing at their place in Michigan, Bill looks back with pride at the “positive force” GBP has become. He remains confident that the current leadership team possesses the skill and creativity to lead the company far into the future.
